Tin, also known as tin, is a chemical element in the periodic table which has the symbol Sn (Latin: stannum) and atomic number 50. Tin is a post-transition metal in group 14 in the periodic table. Tin shows chemical similarities to Germanium and Lead.
It is a poor silvery (post-transition metal) metal, is malleable, does not readily oxidize in air and therefore resists rust, is found in many alloys, and is used to coat other metals to prevent rust. Tin is obtained mainly from the mineral cassiterite which is formed as an oxide.
